Tibetan New Year is traditionally celebrated in two distinct forms. The first is observed by lay communities and is known as Sonam Losar, also called Tse-go in Upper Mustang and across many Himalayan regions. The second is Gyalpo Losar, which is traditionally observed by royal lineages and monastic communities. Together, these celebrations reflect the cultural, regional, and spiritual diversity of Tibetan society. In the Male Fire Horse Year (2053), the Lo-Nyamship Association USA proudly celebrated Tse-go (Sonam Losar) at the Tibetan Community Hall on January 24 and 25, 2026. We were honored to welcome New York City Council Member Julie Won as our Chief Guest, along with Andrew Colwell from the Center for Traditional Music & Dance (CTMD), and representatives from many community organizations. More than 700 community members attended the two-day celebration. The celebration was filled with color, joy, and tradition. Everyone was dressed in beautiful traditional attire, creating a truly vibrant and festive atmosphere. Guests enjoyed a wide variety of traditional foods and drinks, and the program featured traditional dances, songs, and cultural performances. All performances were presented by our own community members, with special recognition to our youth, who have been practicing traditional music, songs, and dances throughout the year. Their dedication and hard work were proudly showcased during this event, reflecting our collective commitment to preserving and passing on our culture and traditions to future generations.
